Spring Conferences!  Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday, March 30th through Friday April 2nd.  Our school start time is 9:45am and dismissal time is 1:07pm on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday ONLY (this is ONLY FOR HYBRID LEARNERS.  Distance Learners will NOT have a change in their schedule).  Please ask your student’s teacher for more information.  Sorry for the confusion in the schedule.


There is no school the week of April 5th through 9th for Spring Break!!! 

Individual student pictures will be Wednesday, April 28th during the hours of packet pick-up (11:30am to 5:30pm).  
If you’re bringing your student in for pictures, line up in your car in the parent pick-up/drop-off area by the office.  We will have staff members come to your car and get your student, bring them in for pictures, and bring them back to your car.  
Here is a link to the order form.  We will have order forms at the school on the 28th as well.

Parents will need to complete the Wellness Screening process monthly (in Skyward) for your child before they start in person school. This should be done on the first of every month.  In completing the questionnaire, you are attesting that you will not send your child(ren) to school if they are sick or have any COVID-19 symptoms or have had any exposure to COVID-19 for the upcoming month.  This will need to be updated monthly in Skyward.   After you complete the questionnaire remember to click submit. Just a reminder, you need to do this prior to your child riding the bus or coming to school on the first of the month.  Additionally, students will have their temperature screened daily upon admission to the school building.

For students attending in-person learning we ask parents and guardians to please be specific when calling in a student absence. If your student is staying home due to illness, please also list the symptoms your student is experiencing. Please be aware that we are required to follow-up on all student absences due to illness and you may receive a phone call, text or email from the school nurse or principal to determine when it is appropriate for your student to return to school based on their symptoms. We continue to follow the Thurston County Public Health and Social Services and Thurston County Schools COVID-19 Student Pathway (found in the OSD Reopening Plan 4.9) when it comes to student illnesses. Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping OSD students and staff safe. 

Dear LP Brown Community ~
As always, I hope this note finds you well. I am happy to have spring in the air and share a few upcoming notes this month:
Because of COVID and a continued mix of hybrid and remote learning, we have decided to cancel our annual "fund run" this year. In place of the festive running event, we will have a spirit package with fun gifts and surprises for our scholars on picture day that we hope promotes a sense of community. We will coordinate with packet pickup and have directions attached with it.  :)

Our next PTO meetings will be held on Tuesday, April 20 and Tuesday May 18th. Both will be scheduled at 6pm on zoom. We will email and FaceBook post a zoom link as the date gets closer. Superintendent Murphy plans to attend the April 20th meeting- please join us for this meeting!!


We will have PTO officer elections at the May meeting, please consider holding a position for the 2021-’22 school year. More information about this will follow in next month's newsletter.

Friendly reminder to continue support for our school through everyday activities! These include “Box Tops for Education”,  “Amazon Smile” and the “State Charity Fund Drive”. You can find us listed as “Leland P. Brown Elementary PTO” in all of these platforms. Every bit of support helps our scholars!

It’s spring which means our garden needs some attention! With COVID gathering restrictions still in place, we won't have an official “garden party” this year, but please feel free to come by and pull weeds around the beds or reach out for other ways to help our special space. Please leave tulips and flowers in place for friends in the building to enjoy!

The All-Star Assembly will be Wednesday, April 14th at 9am celebrating ORGANIZATION!
The theme for April is COOPERATION - Working well with others towards a common goal.  The All-Star Assembly to celebrate this will be on May 5th at 9am.

Students in 4th and 5th grade that are participating in Battle of the Books this year have been reading the books they committed to with their group. We had a practice session this week and will have another Wed. 3/31 at 10:00 on the library Zoom. Hopefully the practice sessions show students where they need work and they can check out Battle books to read over Spring Break. This year we have so few groups that all groups will participate in the final battle. Final battle will be held one group at a time in Zoom. Final battles will begin after Spring Break. Keep reading!

Starting conference week library books can be picked up on Wednesdays during office hours by knocking on the front door. If you call ahead the book will be waiting for you. Books will continue to be available curbside at the gym on packet pickup days. Held books will be delivered to hybrid students’ classrooms on Thursdays and Fridays.

Due to COVID-19, children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals will get extra food  benefits.  Children are eligible during the time that schools are closed or have reduced in-person hours due to COVID.  See the attached link for more information and details for how to apply:

If you signed up to receive meals over Spring Break, you can pick them up on April 5th from 11:30am to 1:00pm from one of the four sites:  Centennial Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Hansen Elementary, and Garfield Elementary School.
