SAFE, KIND, & RESPONSIBLE
LP Brown shows our Scholarship and Eagle Pride by being Safe, Kind, and Responsible in EVERYTHING we do and EVERYWHERE we go. We are Scholars and scholars are prepared for LIFE!

KINDERGARTEN HYBRID
This week we welcome to the building our kindergartners whose families chose hybrid. No matter what model our students use to access school, we are confident that all students are working hard and learning a lot. Any student in the Hybrid model will attend the building two days per week and will engage in asynchronous/packet work for the other three days with a Morning Meeting each Wednesday morning. We are so proud of all of our Eagle Scholars!

WELLNESS SCREENING
Parents will need to complete the Wellness Screening process monthly (in Skyward) for your child before they start in person school. In completing the questionnaire, you are attesting that you will not send your child(ren) to school if they are sick or have any COVID-19 symptoms or have had any exposure to COVID-19 for the upcoming month.  This will need to be updated monthly in Skyward.  . After you complete the questionnaire remember to click submit. Do this prior to your child riding the bus or to coming to school on the first of the month. Additionally, students will have their temperature screened daily upon admission to the school building.
Here is a link to a YouTube video created by the district to help you with the attestation:

LIBRARY NEWS FROM MS. Z
Students in grades K-3 are still listening to stories that have been nominated for Washington Children’s Choice Picture Book Award. I plan to have all 20 nominees read by mid-March so students can vote on their favorite by the end of March. Their votes will be tallied to choose a winning book from LP Brown and then sent on to the Washington Library Association to be counted for the State award. The read-alouds are posted on the library Schoology page for all grades to enjoy, only grades K-3 can vote. Students in grades 4-5 can vote for their favorite Sasquatch book in late March or early April. A slide show about the nominees is on the library Schoology page and the books are available in our library, read at least 2 nominees to vote.

There are 9 teams of all-volunteer 4th and 5th grade students participating in Battle of the Books (BoB) this year. Each student is responsible for becoming an expert on two to six books to support their team during the semi-finals and final battle. The “battles” consist of teams answering questions about small details in the books within a set time. Some students are choosing to work toward reading all twelve BoB books. I hope to begin practice “battles” in February. I have been reading a BoB book aloud during library time. If you are interested in the BoB titles, a slide show is posted on the library Schoology page

I will be introducing/reviewing online research resources available on the OSD Portal for students in 3rd-5th grade in February. I will also post some read-aloud for grades K-5 in honor of Black History Month and Presidents’ Day.

Just a reminder, library books are available for check-out. Students can review how to place holds on the library Schoology page and click a link to the Destiny Discover Library Catalog there also. A book put on hold by Monday night should be ready for pick up on Wednesday if it is listed as IN in the catalog. Pick up time is 11:30-1 and 4:30-5:30 every Wednesday. I will be delivering books to teachers for students in hybrid learning.

LP Brown has qualified for a federal grant enabling ALL of our students to receive free breakfast and lunch daily, regardless of the individual child’s family income.  In order to maintain this grant for the school year, we need to have all families fill out the income survey and submit it to LP Brown.  https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ogbl#search/income+survey/FMfcgxwDqfGcDLGWJBRmpKqRDCqvJFlW?projector=1&messagePartId=0.5

If you have not yet filled out the survey, please download  it, fill it out and return it to Mrs. Green in the office.  You can also email it directly to her at magreen@osd.wednet.edu .
