LP Brown shows our Scholarship and Eagle Pride by being Safe, Kind, and Responsible in EVERYTHING we do and EVERYWHERE we go. We are Scholars and scholars are prepared for LIFE!

Individual student pictures will be Wednesday, April 28th during the hours of packet pick-up (11:30am to 5:30pm).  
If you’re bringing your student in for pictures, line up in your car in the parent pick-up/drop-off area by the office.  We will have staff members come to your car and get your student, bring them in for pictures, and bring them back to your car.  
Here is a link to the order form.  We will have order forms at the school on the 28th as well.


Parents will need to complete the Wellness Screening process monthly (in Skyward) for your child before they start in person school. This should be done on the first of every month.  In completing the questionnaire, you are attesting that you will not send your child(ren) to school if they are sick or have any COVID-19 symptoms or have had any exposure to COVID-19 for the upcoming month.  This will need to be updated monthly in Skyward.   After you complete the questionnaire remember to click submit. Just a reminder, you need to do this prior to your child riding the bus or coming to school on the first of the month.  Additionally, students will have their temperature screened daily upon admission to the school building.

The LP Brown Science Fair will be held May 19th & May 20th from 9:30am to 11:00am.  Please have your young scientists bring their presentation boards to the LP Brown Gym no later than 9am on May 19th.  



For students attending in-person learning we ask parents and guardians to please be specific when calling in a student absence. If your student is staying home due to illness, please also list the symptoms your student is experiencing. Please be aware that we are required to follow-up on all student absences due to illness and you may receive a phone call, text or email from the school nurse or principal to determine when it is appropriate for your student to return to school based on their symptoms. We continue to follow the Thurston County Public Health and Social Services and Thurston County Schools COVID-19 Student Pathway (found in the OSD Reopening Plan 4.9) when it comes to student illnesses. Thank you for your continued cooperation in keeping OSD students and staff safe.

As always, I hope this note finds you well and enjoying spring. Here are my notes this month:
Our next PTO meetings Tuesday, May 18th, at 6pm on zoom. We will email and FaceBook post a zoom link as the date gets closer.

We will have PTO officer elections at the May meeting, please consider holding a position for the 2021-’22 school year! All LP Brown community members are invited to run for a position. Here is a summary of current candidates:
President- Brenda Burns 
Treasure- Alex Monroe
Secretary- Rachel Brandhorst 
Yearbook Coordinator- OPEN (does not need a vote to confirm)
Garden Coordinator- Beth Woods (does not need a vote to confirm)

Our major fundraiser, the Golf Benefit is set for September 25, 2021 and we need your help! This was our only fundraising event this year and our school relies on it to help with classroom, school & student enrichment needs. Please help with planning, get a team (or two!) together, consider sponsorship or making a donation to help with the associated raffle or auction! Please email PTO to express your interest or drop donations off at the LP Brown Office!

Friendly reminder to please continue to support our school through everyday activities, such as “Box Tops for Education”,  “Amazon Smile” and the “State Charity Fund Drive”. You can find us listed as “Leland P. Brown Elementary PTO” on all of these platforms.

It’s spring which means the garden needs some attention! With COVID gathering restrictions still in place, we won't have an official “garden party” this year, but please feel free to come by and pull weeds around the outsides of beds or reach out for other ways to help our special space. Please do leave tulips and flowers in place for friends in the building to enjoy! :)

Homework packet distribution has been changed to every other WEDNESDAY.  Homework packets can be picked up from 11:30am to 5:30pm on:

The All-Star Assembly will be Wednesday, May 5th at 9am celebrating COOPERATION!

And the winning team for the 2020-21 Battle of the Books is Brilliant Bookworm Buddies!  Congratulations to team members Brooks Bezanson, Clover Conn O'Neil and Levi Collins, and to their teacher Mr. Hazel.

Due to COVID-19, children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals will get extra food  benefits.  Children are eligible during the time that schools are closed or have reduced in-person hours due to COVID.  See the attached link for more information and details for how to apply:

LP Brown has qualified for a federal grant enabling ALL of our students to receive free breakfast and lunch daily, regardless of the individual child’s family income.  In order to maintain this grant for the school year, we need to have all families fill out the income survey and submit it to LP Brown. 
 If you have not yet filled out the survey, please download  it, fill it out and return it to Mrs. Green in the office.  You can also email it directly to her at .
