Sean Shaughnessy photoPrincipal News

Hello LP Brown Families,

I hope you’re enjoying your summer! I know it probably feels too early to be thinking about going back to school, but I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself and give you some important information about the start of the 2022-2023 school year.

My name is Sean Shaughnessy, and I am honored and excited to serve as the new principal at LP Brown Elementary. I have been an elementary principal in the Olympia School District (at Roosevelt Elementary) for the past ten years. Prior to that, I was a special education teacher in the Bellingham, Tumwater, and Olympia school districts. Most of my experience has been at the elementary level and I absolutely love working with elementary-aged students. There is no better job in the world!

Personally, I am married with two children. Marina, my wife (pictured above), and I have been married for 19 years. We have two sons. Logan is 16 and will be a sophomore at Olympia High School. Dylan is almost 13 and will be a 7th grader at Washington Middle School. As a family, we love spending time on Orcas Island, traveling, golfing, and playing card games together.

Professionally, I am passionate about finding ways to individualize instruction for students. I promote project-based learning that gets students excited about learning new things and encourages them to engage with other students. I believe that a culturally responsive, project-based learning environment helps remove barriers to learning, and that is what I strive to create at LP Brown.

I made this move to LP Brown because I know that I can help make a positive difference here and provide stability in leadership. I am committed to this community and plan to be here for years to come. I am a supportive leader who is here to listen to the needs of students, families, and staff members. I will use my leadership skills to help accomplish the goals that we create together. I can’t tell you how excited I am to be here and to get started in August/September. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. I will be here to support your students and family in any way I can.

I am here if you have any questions or concerns. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully,
