Sean Shaughnessy – Principal, LP Brown Elementary

Welcome to LP Brown Elementary! My name is Sean Shaughnessy, and I’m proud to serve as the principal of this incredible school community. I have had the honor of leading LP Brown for the past three years, and in that time, our school has seen remarkable growth—our enrollment has increased by more than 20%, and in August 2025, we were voted Best Elementary School in South Sound.

My passion lies in project-based learning and designing thematic units that integrate content areas to provide engaging, real-world learning experiences for students. At LP Brown, we believe in making learning meaningful by connecting classroom instruction to the world around us.

One of the unique features of our school is our commitment to outdoor education. Thanks to generous support from our community, we are constructing a native plant garden that will allow students to explore the food and medicinal properties of native species while learning about sustainability and traditional ecological knowledge. Experiential learning is embedded at every grade level to ensure our students have opportunities to apply their learning in hands-on, natural settings throughout our community.

It is a privilege to be part of a school where curiosity, collaboration, and connection to place are at the heart of everything we do.
