Welcome to LP Brown's Counseling Office!

Taryn Tessneer, MSW, LICSW
School Social Worker - Counseling

I have served in the counseling position at LP Brown Elementary since Fall 2018.  I hold a Master of Social Work from the University of St. Thomas/St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota.  I earned my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  I am licensed by the Washington Department of Health as an Independent Clinical Social Worker and hold an Educational Staff Associate Certificate in Social Work for my practice in schools.  Prior to working in schools, I served the community in many nonprofit organizations and later in the field of mental health.  As a school social worker, I love that I have a role in helping students feel safe and understood, boosting their confidence and sense of belonging, and instilling hope for the future.

I meet with students one-on-one and in group settings to assist with social emotional skills development, building positive relationships, resolving conflicts, identifying and managing emotions in positive and healthy ways and practicing coping skills that they can rely on when faced with a challenge.

Here are some things that I can help with in my role:

Social Emotional Development
Peer Problem Solving/Conflict Resolution
Emotional Support Related to Loss, Separation, Trauma or Other Recent Experience
Student or Family Safety Planning
Harassment, Intimidation or Bullying
Attendance/School Refusal
School Performance or Behavior Plans
School-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Student Mental Health Needs or Concerns
Support for Basic Needs (food, clothing, etc.)
Social Service Coordination for School and Community Programs
Questions about the Special Education Referral Process or 504 Accommodations
